A Quick Overview of Rapstrap

The original externally latching elasticated rapstrap Classic

1: They're Continuous

  • elasticated cellular designs
  • inter-links through any cell
  • creates multiple loops or ties

There are currently two different types of rapstrap, the externally-latching Classic and the internally-latching i-Tie.

The original Rapstrap Classic was created to be a more efficient alternative to traditional hard nylon cable ties. It takes the form of a soft & flexible strap, comprising a chain of identical cells, each of which can serve as a "head";

Our second-generation i-Tie follows the same principle, but uses an internal latching configuration to achieve a slimmer product more closely resembling a conventional cable tie.

Both these cellular designs allow rapstraps to be looped anywhere along their length, making it possible to create several ties with the same strap.

A single rapstrap can provide several ties

2: They Reduce Waste

  • adapts to the required size
  • allows the reuse of cut-off portions
  • provides several ties per strap

Cellular tie strips are inherently more efficient than traditional single-use cable ties. Their continuous design allows clipped-off portions to be used again instead of being discarded.

To achieve this, rapstraps should always be fitted to create the largest loop possible, and then pulled down to size. Because the pulled-through strap retains the tongue, this front portion can be removed & reused for another tie.

Rapstraps get progressively shorter after each use until the whole strap has been used up. Because there's no waste with this system, a single rapstrap can replace several standard cable ties of different sizes.

3: They're Easy to Release

  • ties hold up to 12kg
  • release by pulling tail forwards
  • reuse rapstraps again & again

The rapstrap i-Tie was designed to be secure when locked in place, but also quick and easy to release if required.

By looping the rapstrap slightly away from the end, a short tail portion can be left that later serves as a release grip. Simply pulling forwards on this tail portion will unlock the strap and allow it to be easily removed and used again.

This unique feature makes the rapstrap i-Tie a perfect solution for situations where temporary ties are needed.

4: They Can Biodegrade

  • choice of polymers
  • up to 43% renewable resource
  • biodegradable in cold conditions

Available in both biodegradable and renewable resource materials, rapstraps are an alternative to durable oil-based plastic ties.

Polyester-based biodegradable options are intended for outdoor applications where ties may become lost or discarded into the natural environment. These ties are durable when used above ground, but will gradually decompose when covered by damp earth and organic materials.

Our dispersible PVOH i-Ties are more suitable for indoor applications, such as packaging of dry-goods. This water-soluble polymer (also known as PVA) is widely used in paper & card manufacturing, and is also used in the food industry as a thickener (E1203).
